A step towards some change

I am a very simple egyptian girl, who is not satisfied somehow with her society and feels like this specific society deserves more than it gets, and can be the best with little more effort and much more frankness and persistance. "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain."(Maya Angelou)

Chatting

Chatting is the spider web in our society. First when I started using the Internet I was a chatting addict. I used to chat for hours and hours. I've meet so many people, added them, blocked them and deleted them too. But after a while I stopped for many reasons and just limited my chatting skills on my msn, which only contained my friend's addresses.
I get many adding requests from strangers and they usually think I am a guy, because I'm using a masculin nickname. Any way, when I used to chat i never chatted to Egyptians. With all my respect but they deal horribly with any Egyptian girl and try to apply their mixed ideas on those girls. Recently I got a request to be added on msn, I accepted it and forgot all about that address. When he saw me online he told me that he liked to get to know me and that he respects friendship (My God....!! guys aren't you bored of that sentence..!!). So I asked him how he got my email and really was so silly at first with him because he got my add from an email he got.
He was very respectable unlike the standard of Egyptian guys I've chatted to. The mixed ideas were very obvious in his words, attitude and questions. He showed a lot of sudden interest in chatting with "me". So i just asked him why? he just told me that this is how he deals with "friends". He also told me that he chatted to other girls on the Internet and that he "knows" everything about them.
Then came the most strange request, he asked for my cell phone number.
I asked him: "Why?"
"just to check on you and call you when i have no access to the Internet."
"dont worry I have my other friends' numbers and I will not bother you with my calls"
I didn't continue talking about that issue and just refused to give him any numbers Ofcourse..!!
He repeated the same request again so I asked him: "If I were your little sister would you still ask me that request...?"
"you named it.... I am sorry.."
"what?"
"you said if you were my sister.... and I would never accept this to my own sister..."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"then you were treating me just as what? If your requests is impossible for your sister why do you think they are possible for me?"
"My sister is young and can't deal with chatting and besides I can't even allow her to chat" !!!!!!!!
"Listen I can't just go through this hypocrisy any more if you think chatting is wrong, then why are you doing it?"
"I just can't chat with you anymore or even stand you with that dualism in your principals."
"As you wish .... I promise that I'll not bother you anymore."
I was not so shocked but yet couldn't believe that this really existed, and that our society has double measurments for everything according to the "mean" or the "end".
Our youth is torn and is getting so mixed messages from the elders which make them confused and mix the wrong to be right.
For anybody the "RIGHT" and "WRONG" should be the same no matter who this person might be; boy or girl, married or single women and men, white or black, muslim or christian, western or eastern.
We should have a fixed right principals to teach the youth, whatever is wrong remains wrong in any situation under any circumstance.

Some qoutes

Some qoutes which i found very helpful about change for famous thinkers:
"He that will not apply new remedies must expect new evils; for time is the greatest innovator." Francis Bacon.
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Mohandas Gandhi.
"Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change." Confucius.

Why....?We are in Egypt..!!!

People always think that to change there have to be a motive for that change. By this motive they need some previlage they get and they never look for change in itself as a previlage. Although the results is much worthy than any motives but they just can't take the first step. All the time waiting for a leader or a person to start the way for change so they could follow his/her footsteps. Again why wait for leadership, if everybody change in his/her own self and all around then that is a change.
The passive attitude of people and delaying the change is just because they are being lazy will never lead any progress. If everybody says how to change and there is no hope then that is for sure a hopless attitude and they are only acting so negative. Many people have very high aspiration for change but they are only hiding it because of being afraid of society looks and "because we are in Egypt". Egypt is one of the genuine nations in the world and this is known for ages and its people have all the potentials to be the greatest but all what is needed is some persistance and faith that "WE WILL CHANGE"

Who's fault??!!

"What made people in our society so negative?"
A very tricky question that a friend of mine asked. It is that kinds of questions that is like : which came first, the egg or the hen??! but I've always thought that its just a matter of getting used to the current situation even if it was wrong. My friend told me that in the past people used to be rebellious and when they see something wrong they try to change it. But that doesn't make the old days perfect or so. It is all about what is right and what is wrong. In our "globalization" age youth is getting extremely mixed messages; they watch all day long the american moives and try to copy the life style and yet they can't apply it to our eastern society. Therefore young people become so much torn between the western civilization and the eastern traditions.
Our society have been stereo typed by the government. they are treated like babies and yet they accept it, they are directed like sheeps and accepting that. The act of acceptance deprive those people from any rebellious act afterwards. So any act of rebellion by this"sheeps" will only be treated by violence from the sheperd and afterall the sheep will go back to his herd, as the sheperd orders.
Any way i think that change can't happen easily but it will happen one day. All that is important is not to have a sudden drastic change which could be a shock it has to be so slow and right so that it have its "deep" and "lasting" effect in our society.
